Baseball Workout Mistake #2 - A Disorganized Throwing Program
Coach Dan Huff, CSCS

I can't tell you how many coaches I talk to that tell their guys to

"go throw" without giving any clear direction. You wouldn't send

them into a weight room without telling them how many sets and reps

they need to do, would you?

After you complete your warm up each day you will move into your

throwing program.

Once you have completed both your dynamic warm up and your throwing

specific warm up you should be ready to get your glove on and start

throwing.

Each throwing session begins with a gradual warm up toss to your

starting distance. Following your warm up toss you will move into

serious throwing for a specified number of throws. You will then

take a 5 minute break before going through your warm up tossing

again. The second round of throwing will begin to differ from the

first round as the weeks go on. You may be backing up for long

tossing followed by distance throwing. The distances may be the

same, but the throw is completely different. Think of long tossing

as lofting the ball gently over a long distance. On the other hand,

distance throwing is the type of throw you will use when you are

trying to throw a base runner out at the plate from deep in the

outfield.
